about

GOLD’s guide to the tracks.

One of us

“One of us! One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble! We accept her! We accept her! One of us! One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble! One of us! One of us!” (The freaks, Freaks, 1932)
The opening song begins with a hard rocking riff that lays a firm foundation for Milena Eva’s soulful vocals. With it’s mean chorus and sparkling solo it sets the tone for the rest of the album. ‘One of us’ is a song about hope; everything is relative.

Antebellum

“We’re dancing on the edge of the volcano.” (Erwin Olaf, 2011)
A dynamic song that forms the heart of the album, both lyrically and musically. It kicks off with a typical GOLD riff, followed by a fiery verse. The metaphor of the calm before the storm that is used in the lyrics, finds it’s way in the ominous bass line that preludes the grand finale.

Love, the magician

El amor brujo (Manuel de Falla, 1915)
A compelling piece about lust and willingly losing control. With it’s open chords and catchy vocals it shows the lighter side of GOLD, while also being the fastest track on the album.
Gone under

“Bye bye” (Mimi, Survive Style 5+, 2004)
‘Gone under’ shows GOLD at their most metallic. It’s a proud and victorious song about burying the demons that haunt you. The pounding riffs and ecstatic solos powerfully underline this.

Dreams

“Suddenly the quiet people here are no longer quiet. Their simple dreams have become a nightmare. Maybe you brought the nightmare with you. And maybe, it will die with you.” (Jean Renault, Twin Peaks)
The riffs have a more classic hard rock feel, but the songwriting walks it’s own path with the early and extended bridge. Lyrically it touches the same topic as ‘Gone under’: Harm watch, harm catch.

North

“Be on my side, I’ll be on your side, baby.” (Neil Young, Down By The River)
The vinyl lovers will experience this song as the opening track of side B. “North” has a fierce driving rhythm that carries Milena Eva’s storytelling in a typical GOLD way: open, passionate and compelling. It is a story and a promise about following the dreams of your loved one.

Medicine man

“No one can predict the future, so it's pointless to fear the unknown.” (Yoh, Shaman King)
A desperate cry when there’s only one man left to turn to. ‘Medicine man’ is a quite straightforward song with a spacious bridge that underlines the summoning lyrics.

The hunt

“The hunted became the huntress. The hunter became the prey.” (White Stripes, Conquest)
A glorious, powerful and catchy track that works as the blueprint of GOLD. Another song about being hunted down but ending on top with the predator as the prey.

Ruby

“Only those who can leave behind everything they have ever believed in can hope to escape.” (William S. Burroughs)
A travel through the darkest side of the mind, seeing a light and finding the ultimate escape. It’s an ominous track with a big and bright ending. Featuring a guest solo by Willem Verbuyst (Vanderbuyst).
